Traumatic events from the past affecting your life today?

Trauma resides within each of us, manifesting when we encounter circumstances that feel too big for us to handle. Trauma takes on many different forms and comes from a variety of life experiences—such as abuse, neglect, violence, accidents, illness, and grief. Additionally, it can also evolve from our ancestral heritage, inherited through relationships and encoded in our DNA. This trauma may take root in our thoughts, bodies, memories, and self-perceptions, often resulting in profound distress or discomfort.

You might find yourself overwhelmed and anxious, or perhaps you feel numb and drained. Your mind may be overcome by racing thoughts, making it difficult to sleep, while flashbacks and nightmares disrupt your peace. It's possible you're grappling with feelings of guilt, shame, a loss of self-trust, strained relationships, or a sense of identity loss. Whatever you're going through, it's crucial to recognize that you're not broken. Alongside your trauma narrative, there exists an equally compelling story of resilience.

Nevertheless, the aftermath of trauma can affect various facets of your life, impacting your emotions, sense of security, self-identity, relationships, and overall well-being. You may be wondering how to navigate these challenges.

How trauma therapy can help you:

  • Emotional regulation: Learn coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques to manage anxiety, anger, and sadness effectively.

  • Reducing Symptoms: Alleviate symptoms associated with trauma, such as flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, and hypervigilance.

  • Rebuilding Self-Esteem: Rebuild your self-esteem by challenging negative beliefs about yourself and fostering self-compassion.

  • Improving Relationships: Improve communication, boundaries, and trust within your relationships.

  • Addressing Guilt and Shame: Explore and address these emotions and develop a healthier perspective.

  • Promoting Resilience: Recover from trauma and build resilience by learning to adapt and thrive despite your traumatic experiences.

  • Empowerment: Take control of your healing journey and regain a sense of agency and control over your life.

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and goals.

FAQS

Common questions about trauma therapy

  • My sessions are client-centered and collaborative, meaning that you get to decide what we work on together and we go at your pace. I use an integrative approach to treating trauma and stress, which includes resilience-based therapy, compassion focused therapy, and trauma-focused CBT.

  • This is based on your own journey. If you experienced a single-incident trauma in adulthood and had a relatively trauma-free childhood, therapy can be quicker in terms of results. If you have experienced significant trauma early on in life or over a period of time, the therapeutic process may be a bit slower.

I typically see you once a week at first, this allows for therapy to move along at a good pace and gain some momentum. We can discuss this together and make a plan that fits for you, because your needs come first.
